DescriptionNot a new piece, but one I'm reposting after having removed it from my CAF for a few years. Great 1966 large-art action page from Tales of Suspense #78, which was the first "present-day" meeting between Captain America and Nick Fury in Marvel continuity. Their first published team-up was a World War II story depicted in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #13 from 1964--so, in other words, this was the first time that Cap and Nick connected after Cap had been thawed out from his block of ice in the modern era.Kirby had some of his greatest inkers on Tales of Suspense, including Joe Sinnott and Chic Stone. Giacoia wasn't as prolific (apparently he was notoriously slow and often procrastinated) but for me his crisp line puts him just a step behind Joe and Chic. I love that hero head-shot in the middle left panel; when I acquired this page it felt like a perfect complement to a similar head-shot of Thor in the middle right panel of my Journey into Mystery page. I love the note about Fury being too short..."Again!" Awesome.

Bigger than life characters which made the action even more grand under the Kirby / Giacoia dynamism! You can feel Cap and Fury are in constant danger just off panel as the action is cropped so close to make the panels so full of linework. The battle page features the Kirby choreography storytelling which did the heavy lifting in the Marvel method.

Prime Kirby Silver Age action Jeremy with always solid inking from Giacoia. A text book example of how well the King can rapidly pace the story.

Fantastic example of prime Kirby silver age greatness! Giacoia's inks are masterfully arranged, powerful and delicate in equal proportions...

Outstanding page from Tales of Suspense #78 by Jack Kirby and Frank Giacoia! Love this battle sequence with Captain America taking down an evil android until the android sprays him with a toxic gas! Beautiful action panels with lots of badass Kirby swagger. Strong inks from Frank Giacoia really make the Kirby linework pop! Love that final panel with the evil top brass watching the action on a Kirby-style viewing machine. This 1966 twice-up page typifies what made the Silver Age so great!
