This is my favorite MacFarlane page I've seen come to auction lately--that top panel of Spidey is poster-worthy, and the Peter/MJ dynamic (and Todd's rendition of MJ) was such a huge part of why I loved that run so much, and is really showcased on this page. Congrats!
Wow, never seen this before! Stunning early Wrightson--love the perspective looking down on the tower, and the integration of the title into the art. Awesome!
Gorgeous inking and craftsmanship on display--so many different textures showcased in each panel. Congrats!
Paul Smith is such a complete original--so clean and distinctive, really a singular style of art that only belongs to him. Lots to love on this page--especially in terms of the characters showcased--but my favorite element might be the four panel BAMF at the top, so fun and cool. Congrats!
Great team page--this kind of character interaction is part of what made Uncanny X-Men such a phenomenon. Beautiful Austin inks and a really well-remembered moment. Congrats!
That is one incredibly impressive (and masculine!) wall. Wow!
Gorgeous Surfer page--love all that black ink, and my favorite thing about Big John's run was the emotion he brought to the character; so I love his meditative depiction on this page. Also always have felt that Sal was one of his brother's very best inkers. Congrats!
Excellent idea for a commission--honestly now that I've seen it, I can't believe they never used this concept for an Excalibur cover!
Worth lining up for--love hearing how you made it happen, congrats!
Love when a piece of artwork has multiple layers of meaning. For me this is a super nostalgic, grail-worthy piece that represents the magic of early 80s Marvel (which Marvel Age tapped into so well, I loved that mag!) and the excitement of discovering that world as a child. Congrats!
This page says so much about these characters and their dynamic--love it so much, esp that top right panel. Silvestri/Green's art for this run was so expressive and dynamic--so perfect for this run.
At the time, as a 11-12 year old reader I was intrigued but also weirded out by Nowlan's cold, alien style; always made me feel a little unsettled. Took me a bit of maturing to recognize how singular and unique is is--now I'd say he's one of my favorite artists. Love that this page showcases him doing his take on several key moments/themes from the late 80s world of X. And great writing by Claremont, as always. Congrats!
This is awesome, so unique--love the retro 70s vibe, perfect match for Tradd's style. Very cool!
Always loved Kirby's design for the Two-Gun Kid--part cowboy, part super-hero. This is awesome--wish Marvel would do something cool with these Western heroes!
Really beautifully designed image. Wonder what Caniff would think about it (and Toth too).
One of the greatest issues of that era--there must be an interesting story behind how BWS ended up doing it. Gorgeous artwork and a great introspective story--and a masterpiece of a cover. And while this may not be reflected in the original art, I've always loved how the published cover was colored--that blue is so deep and striking. I assume that was BWS doing the coloring himself, as he always preferred to do. Congrats on acquiring an iconic piece!
Love Leonardi and love this great story ("Colossus: God's Country" by Ann Nocenti). Awesome image showcasing Leonardi's dynamic style--congrats!
Excellent page! I know Buscema/Palmer is the iconic combo, but I love George Klein's inks on Big John on these Avengers issues. Under-rated art team!
Awesome and memorable cover--never realized this was Bill S!
Awesome cover showing the level of detail that BWS's style was evolving into, and would eventually make him one of the greatest comic artists of all time--and based on a classic Robert E Howard story. Incredible piece--congrats!
Iconic image that is representative of the Golden Age of comics. Congrats!
Very well-remembered image, by me at least! Shrunk down it the corner it looked very realistic--particulalry the lighting; I actually didn't recognize it as Larkin's style. But now in the original art I see Larkin's painterly brush-strokes. Awesome and nostagic!
Beautiful piece--and also great story! So many of the other stories in the new crossover went for laughs, I appreciated that this one went for a more meaningful character story involving these two icons.
Incredible! Always have loved this type of character collage, and this Big John version is one of the best--so many characters represented, in classic Buscema/Sinnott style. So much to look at!
I've always loved this page--great display of the subtlety that Al Williamson's inks brought to JRJR's pencils. Also just great storytelling, JRJR making us feel the swerve of the car by showing us DD's movement (as opposed to a more basic overhead shot of the car swerving).
Iconic pen and ink example--and love see the words on the art, getting a glimpse into Frazetta's process.
I know Kubert is most often associated with Sgt. Rock, but for me his work on Enemy Ace represents Kubert's artistic peak. This is a gorgeous page with multiple classic Kubert/Enemy Ace touches. Great acquisition--congrats!
Paul Smith's most iconic piece of non-X artwork; and one of the most gorgeous images of the good doctor created, which is high praise given the legendary artists we all associate with the character. Congrats!
Excellent page from the period that many consider to be a high point for Byrne's FF art--early in the run when he was inking himself and putting a lot of attention into his linework. That panel of Sue in the upper right is so beautiful; and so much texture and detail across the page to look at. Congrats!
GORGEOUS page--along with that original She-Hulk run being charming and hilarious, it also was beautifully drawn by Byrne and Wiacek. The detail to Shulkie's hair, her expressiveness across panels, all the background detail and fuzziness of Xemnu--all so spectacular! Excellent page.
Great FF page with all four heroes using their powers--but of course what Kirby expertly draws our eye to is that great last panel with Doom. So cool!
Great page--love the layout and the reflections on the globe thing; and great shots of the kids together. Nice! Always liked how the PP kids acted like real kids.
Awesome piece! I love this series, Typhoid is at her twisted best when written by her creator, Ann Nocenti; and Van Fleet's artwork is incredible--aggresive, a little scary, but still delicate and beautiful.
This is awesome! I was a true blue Marvel fan as a kid but couldn't deny the appeal of JGL's clean-line approach. Not that I knew it was from him, but when I saw this type of art on stickers, Hallmark cards, Underoos etc., it always looked so great. Big time nostalgia factor with this one--congrats!
Wow, iconic, memorable, gorgeous piece of art. One of my favorite characters, from a favorite '80s story--this ticks all the boxes. The inking of the lightning effects has such a strong Simonson vibe--I wondered if he maybe had something to do with the page; but maybe more likely it's Art or Rubinstein paying him homage. Truly awesome page--congrats!
This was a favorite book of mine as a kid--in part because the story felt so adult; some heavy, challenging stuff. Love how this page grounds the story in such a rich, populated real-world setting. That's what Marvel was all about--feels like we've lost that vibe in today's comics; you can hear the carn horns and sounds of the street coming off the page.
Beautiful example of Miller's high contrast black and white art style, which blew us all away at the time--really had never seen anything like it. And something so cool about having the thinly lettered "Episode 7 by Frank Miller" text on the page. Big congrats!
Iconic example of Paul Smith's unique style--and would be a stunning piece of comic art even if it wasn't a classic image that we all remember.
Sometimes we get a little numb to the historical signifcance of these classic pages--but think about the impact that the X-Men has had on the world of comic books and popular culture in general; and then think about how that franchise traces back through 60+ years and millions of pages, back to 1963 when it was all new, and there had only been one issue published before this one. Must be incredible to hold this page in your hands--and putting historic significance aside, it's a classic example of the unique and charming storytelling mastery of Jack Kirby. The camera flip in the last two panels is both sublime and so much fun!
Something poetic about this page in particular rolling its way back to you--congrats! So many classic Kirby elements here, it's a fantastic example.
Wow! Classic, iconic, pure Marvel magic. Congrats!
The Pacheco/Merino artwork in this series is so beautiful--incredible linework, especially in the characters' hair and other fine details.
Great page with so much to love about it--Big John doing Galactus, the perfect caricature of Nixon, and the intense sense of chaos that comes with Galactus' attack on earth. Marvel magic!
Wow classic and historic early Ditko rogue's gallery page--so cool!
Great example of both early Butch Guice and the charming character dynamics that made us all fall in love with the X-Men of that era and think of them ask family. Very fitting tribute to remember Guice's work--he created a lot of comic books that I really enjoyed.
