DescriptionI met Craig Hamilton at the San Diego Con in 1991.That was the show where Ken Steacy set a new record for the charity art auction with his Rocketeer on the cover of LIFE magazine air brush piece, and then shortly afterward (as in minutes...!), Craig eclipsed Ken's record with a coloured pencil version of Captain Hook! This is NOT that piece, but it is nice to have an elaborate version of the character by Craig. Obtained in a trade with Brett Bjornsrud in August 2007. Social/Sharing |

This was one of the earliest pieces of character design work for the Peter Pan & Wendy mini-series that we were working on for (and which I brought to) Eclipse. As the person who brought both Craig and Rick aboard for the project, I felt (and feel) Craig's pencil work had a magical quality, and Rick was the right person to ink him. Craig took my fully detailed scripts and brought them to elegant life. For a look at more art done for the project -- including that by artists who preceded Craig (but included Rick) -- see an article in the upcoming BACK ISSUE #24 from TwoMorrows. Unfortunately, Craig chose not to be interviewed, but Rick and I are, and it is the only place to see some of the inked and lettered pages, and the record-breaking Hook piece that sold at San Diego. There's also a bit more about the project on my website, including Ray's new Hook piece in its only "colored" form for a mock cover: www.andymangels.com/peterpan.html

On Craig Hamilton's ComicArtFans Gallery, "Neverland" he comments: "This constitutes the most disheartening chapter of my life and I am currently in the process of chronicling the drama in a book called "Losing Neverland" in which the art will see print for the first time."

Hmm, your trade must have preceded mine. Or I would have included this piece in the package of 6 pieces I got from Brett in our trade. Just a brilliant Hook illustration. Congratulations!

It looks like this was a year or so ahead of your trade with Brett.
