Summer 2024 ComicArtLive hosted a Fred Hembeck show and sold the volume one homage piece. Bill flashed this second piece and said that it would be available at some future show.

I made the decision right then and there that it would be coming home with me no matter what when that show materialized.

...and I was right.

This thing is a massive 24" x 19"!

Fred was one of the creators who always tickled my funny bone when reading his work in my teen years. I would skip right to his section of Marvel Age when I was picking that up in the early 90s. I feel blessed to have this gracing my walls at home and my family and I get to see it every day.

This piece is an homage to Jim Steranko's "History of Comics" volume 2 cover. This piece was published in the comic buyers guide in 1999 and later in the Nearly Complete Essential Hembeck Archives Omnibus.

Special thanks to Ryan Quackenbush for putting together a full scan of the piece. Without his help there's no way I would have been able to get a decent image up for everyone to admire here on CAF.

Hembeck captures the history of the Golden Age with all it's cartoony glory! The key to these books were to have fun and where the heroes always saved the day by the end of the story! A wide variety of the genres are represented and you also get the birth of the Marvel age in there too!

Wow! Didn't know you nabbed this one! Huge (both meanings) Hembeck, Harris! Crazy compositionin this Marvel/DC mashup homage. Steranko Hembeck-ized! Congrats!
