DescriptionUPDATE!!!This is now published!!! My first published commission and it's found in Stuart Sayger's newest sketchbook 'Bagged and Bored' as the frontis piece. At Heroes 2011, my very good friend Carlos Lising (check out his gallery here on CAF- seriously!!) was kind enough to approach Stuart's table and mentioned my love of this piece. It was then that Stuart showed him the sketchbook and surprise!... Carlos sent it to me. Stuart also signed the cover and wrote 'Hi Holly!' on the image. It was such a great surprise and I can't thank Carlos or Stuart enough. I'm still grinning from ear to ear!!!!! ************************************************************************* After contacting Stuart through his CAF gallery, I kept thinking 'if this was my only commission from him, what would it be?' Yes, I contacted him before I knew what I wanted but you see, this happened rather quickly. He had some time before the convention in Pittsburgh 2011 and there was no way I was going to say 'No' when he contacted me back. Mr. Sayger is (and I'm not sure how he feels about me calling him this lol) a doll to work with. He was so enthusiastic about doing a WitchBlade for me even though he's only done maybe a total of three. When he told me that little bit of news, I was over the moon!! This was actually meant to be- YAY!!! After talking to him about what I had in mind, I also told him that I don't want to restrain him. To go with the flow of how the piece progressed. I had complete faith in him which is a bit strange because usually I'm too much of a control freak. lol Well, his words to me was 'This was going to be FUN!!' Now, I ask you, can you imagine how great it felt to get that kind of reaction from an artist? I was so excited and when he sent me the scan in just over a weeks time.. I was floored!! She was beautiful.. and haunting... Stuart added just the right amount of softness by using pastels (which I wasn't expecting) yet didn't loose the edginess of the piece. He really is a genius. When I got the piece and saw it in person, it was like seeing a totally new work of art. The hard work that Stuart did was even more evident and even more stunning. I remembered his words of putting it in sunlight to get the full effect and when I did.. I just had to take a picture to show everyone here. And that's what you are looking at now. :) I truly think that this was a perfect combination of 'subject and artist'. Stuart's style truly meshed so well with this commission that it was just spooky. I can't thank him enough for this stunner and I even remembered his advice of 'Touch all you want..but no rubbing!' lol If you are considering getting a piece from him, stop 'considering' and please, contact him. He really is terrific and the turnaround time is fantastic. He also has no problem answering any questions you ask. He's truly a class act. :) *I thought it would be fun to title this piece much like a graphic novel or a WitchBlade one-shot. In my opinion, this piece would look stunning as a cover for a rather haunting storyline. ;) * Social/Sharing |

The one that is up now just doesn't really do Stuart or the piece any justice.

That's some description Holly! It makes me laugh... I've heard some narrow minded people say that you have to be a full blown artist to know anything about art or to critique art. Well Holly, I think you just blew that notion right out of the water dear! You obviously know what art you like and you know what you are talking about as well. Common sense here...if you are involved with anything long enough such as art, you develop an eye for it. You become experienced with it whether you draw or not. Why else would anyone become a collector? (flippers aside). You may not have a huge gallery Holly, but it is lovely and your choices are striking and unique. You are what you collect, eh? I love this Witchblade too. Reminds me of Mark Beachum's work. Great commission hon!

I kind of use that philosophy whenever I think about adding to my gallery. These are pieces I plan on keeping forever so I have to make sire I make the right decisions. I appreciate your comments but comparing Stuart to Beachum?... I think we can agree to disagree about that one. :)

This is being featured, right now, as I'm replying to you.. omg! I'm floored. To say that I appreciate every comment, every view would be an understatement. Stuart is an amazing artist and you're right, I adore this piece more than most people know. :)

Stuart's sketchbook, btw, is fantastic and I feel so honored that he included this piece. I haven't had much experience with commissions but working with Stuart was amazing. I'm already plotting my next one. ;)

At the time of my last comment I was busy ranting and not aware of your Witchblade's publishing success. I could not be happier for you Holly! Congratulations. This masterpiece deserves no less.

Sayger is an awesome person to talk to. I got a Rocketeer from him this year at Pittsburgh and also he did a little gargoyle on my Darkness Jam piece. Definitely am getting another piece from him.

I will say that leaving him to his own devices is the best way- the results are killer!!
