Description

Ikegami is manga-ka royalty having started in manga at the age of 17. Most widely known internationally for Crying Freeman, Sanctuary and Mai, the Psychic Girl, he was well read and influential. In recent years he was honored with a full, solo exhibition of his art at the Angouleme Comic festival in France which I was fortunate enough to attend and get a catalog from. I was truly impressed with the original I saw on display and gained insight and appreciation for his themes, style and technique. I am thrilled to add this small piece to my collection. It is roughly 3 x 3 inches and the reason it is available as it was removed from the manuscript as it was being revised. S. fully finished and ready for print but edited out and redrawn. From the translation done for the auction, it suggests that the lighting was different in this sequence and so it was redone. It is from Lord and features the character Unokama and was serialized in 2004 to 2011.

This panel is such distinctive Ikegami portraiture that it requires no signature.

Very handsome piece! The eyebrows, steely eyes, and chin are that of a heroic manga character.

Amazing! You unearth some of the best gems in comic art collecting. This is a perfect example of the Ikegami face.

Wow, the second I set eyes on this I thought "Wow, Crying Freeman!", and I've never even read it ir ever knew who drew it! Super nice piece.
