DescriptionI am happy to be adding this piece to my collection. Early Turtles art has been on my radar for over a decade but it is not commonly for sale on the open market. When a page from an early book with all 4 Turtles on it came up, I thought this was the one. It is from the 4th TMNT book as the Raphael one-shot came out between issues 3 and 4 of the regular run. Published in 1985, it continues where TMNT #3 left off. I think this is the perfect vintage of early Turtles art with all the naive charm but a little bit more polished than the first 2 books. This was also an important book in that it established these one off books and was the beginning of differentiating the personalities and quirks of each of the turtles. Eastman and Laird were just hitting their stride and the hype from the book was really starting to get around. I missed out on these books when they came out. With such small print runs I doubt there was more than 10 issues in the city of Calgary at the time. I am familiar with the art but not the stories as I have never read a TMNT book. I know the Turtles most from many of their various incantations in popular media like movies, television and video games. Other than the Walking Dead, I can't think of a more important and culturally invasive comic property than TMNT in the past 30 years.Social/Sharing |

Great page and great memories from my favorite period in Turtles history, when they were still taking it as a riff on Miller's Daredevil run, still years before it became a mass market juggernaut aimed at young children. Great pickup, Jeff!

Indy comics come and go, but TMNT are forever. Congrats on picking up a classic early page!

You certainly cover the widest breadth of interest in graphic storytelling art of anyone I know. Love this page - and love seeing it in your gallery.
