DescriptionAfter years (at least 6 or 7) of trying to acquire a nice Alan Davis Hulk drawing with no luck, I had pretty much given up on the idea of getting one. Alan doesn't take commissions and only does head sketches at shows so my goal of landing a nice Full figure Hulk seemed like a lost cause. I had heard that he would sometimes bring pre-done pieces to cons but I had never seen or heard of a Hulk showing up anywhere. I saw Alan's name on the Motor City con artist list but honestly did not expect to get anything. To my surprise, this beauty was in the portfolio and I could barely contain my excitement when I saw it. Another collector was eyeballing it and as soon as he flipped past it I said that I would take it (seemed like forever waiting to see if he would pull it out of the portfolio). Later in the same show, a fellow collector shared that they had Mark Farmer's contact information and had just completed a flawless inking commission. What's better than an Alan Davis commission? An Alan Davis commission with Mark Farmer inks! Fast forward a few months and my own flawless Farmer transaction, and I had completed the piece pictured - a gorgeous Alan Davis Hulk with Mark Farmer's luscious inks. One more box checked on the art bucket list. Big thanks to Fred Chamberlain and Paul Greer for helping to facilitate the lead on this piece and Tatiana Dykes for the lead on Mark Farmer. Can ya tell that I am one happy Hulk collector?10/1/2016 UPDATE: additional images added for tight head shot and pencils. Stay tuned for colored version. Social/Sharing |

That is a great story to go along with this great piece! Like you, I don't recall ever seeing a full figure Hulk done by Alan, so besides being a killer piece, it's also rather rare. Congratulations on this beauty.

Congratulations on this beauty. Thanks Eric, you are right ... they just aren't out there and that's part of why I had almost given up. Lesson learned - never give up!

I'm not a Hulk fan but I do like Alan's take on him. This turned out well

I probably would've reached across that guy browsing and snatched it out of the portfolio - great self control Dave! Amazing piece!

It took every fiber of restraint I could muster. It was probably on a few seconds but it seemed like an eternity. I can still see in my mind's eye ... sitting in the portfolio with the other collector looking it over.
