Description

Really nice prelim to the cover for Hulk 299 with Hulk squaring off with Doctor Strange. Always loved this cover with Hulk trying to break through Doc's forcefield. The prelim has great detail and I especially like the faces of both Hulk and Doc here.

Fun back story - in speaking with the artist, Frank Cirocco, he mentioned that the cover was published from the pencil and ink drawing but he painted the original artwork (as he did commonly back then) and that he sold it. He failed to capture a scan/pic of the painted cover and would love to see it. So if you have it or are aware of it's whereabouts, please look him up (or I will put you in touch).

Published cover attached for comparison.

I really liked this cover, too. Simple but strong, and I always enjoyed the Hulk/Strange storylines when they came up. IMO, the expression of strain on Doctor Strange's face in your prelim is better than the published cover. Nice prelim. Congrats!

Agreed. I think the face and hands in the prelim deliver a greater sense of how hard Doc is having to work to keep ol greenskin from breaking through.

I had to go look at the cover again.  This prelim is spot on.  Excellent piece!

Very interesting description, and very cool to see the original pencil prelim.  I think the prelim has much more of a sense of urgency, raw emotion and danger.  And it's always exciting to see the original pencils for a piece.

Love it when Strange and Hulk tussle. Interesting history behind this piece too!

What a cool little piece to get, Dave. I always loved this cover and was surprised that it had never surfaced on the market after all these years. It's great that we at least get to see the prelim, which is virtually identical anyway!

Thanks RuDac! I had wondered as well and I hope this post might help pull the actual cover to the light of day.

RuDac?!? Ugh, you're killing me, Dave! Besides, if you "shorten" it to 5 letters, you may as well just write "Ruben"!

Prelim as good as the final. Fondly remember this cover. Congrats!
