Description

1st of 2 Black Panther (BP) posts from the recent Heroes Con. Little bummed I missed out on a Kirby BP page this past weekend on eBay so decided to post a couple of my own BP pieces tonight!

Like many I grew up on his ASM books so as a fan it was great to actually chat with Erik Larsen. Nice guy and very forthcoming! As far as the sketch request, there were a few reasons. First, I hadn't seen a BP sketch by him, and as BP is one of my favorite characters, it made sense. Second, I remember the 3 Spider-Man annual covers he had done in the early �90�s, one from each of the 3 ongoing Spidey series at the time, and that I really liked his BP on the ASM annual in particular. Lastly, I know he�s a big Kirby fan (I know, who isn�t?!) and I�ve seen that influence come through in his renditions of the classic Kirby characters�definitely the case here! Big hands/fingers (kind of a Larsen staple now, too!), blocky inks, those square-ish claws, and a dynamic pose!

Larsen is one of the fewf guys who "does" Kirby truly in his own way. Great and most original piece!
