Keeping with my 2021 theme of first posts by artists here with 1 of 3 today by Dike Ruan!

Ruan, along with rep Annabel Kirby, recently released his second art book. As part of buying the book, I was thrown in a raffle with the chance of being 1 of 15 buyers to get a head sketch along with the purchase�and I ending up winning! I chose Deathlok as I had just bought a piece of art featuring him (will be posting soon!) and I was thinking that getting a full commission at some point would be good idea. Which I will do but now am happy with this �sketch�.

Nice choice of a downward head tilt, which lends to the shadowing in the eyes/nose/mouth areas. Also makes the left mechanical eye pop, including the glint. Nice sheen on the metal part there too and from a design standpoint it�s cool how he has the center line of the costume go right to the bottom of the board with the flag kind of floating there next to it. Good stuff.

DUDE! I seriously love this piece. A superb choice of commission (Deathlok is a fun choice, and I bet artists don’t get flooded with requests for him). I look at this and absolutely love the use of negative space... and then space makes me think of astronauts... and then I think of the big flag patches on their spacesuits... and then I’m brought back to the flag patch on ol’ Deathlok here (who will always be wearing a spacesuit in this piece to me now, K... Sorry :) ). Without question I need to find out more about Mr. Ruan’s work! Love the fact that (along with all the serious eye candy) a trip through your gallery will often point me in a direction I had never gone before... Thank you! :)

(Dang it! I just blew my chance to stick with the whole space theme and say “a trip through your gallery will often point me in a direction I had never BOLDLY gone before...” didn’t I? Ah, well. Too late now... ;) )

Ha ha, thanks, Jason...and it's never too late! "Great art runs strong in my gallery" - OK, that was a little bit of a stretch. I tried. Love how this all started with "negative space" :) Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!
