DescriptionNice check off the collector list here – a Camuncoli page from Superior Spider-Man! I actually have pages from the first issue the other artists on the series worked on (#1 for Ryan Stegman and #6 for Humberto Ramos) so it’s cool to have the same here for Camuncoli. He doesn’t sell his work so I was lucky to pick this up from inker John Dell.I liked all 3 artists’ work on the series a lot, but where I think Camuncoli stood out was on highlighting the creepy aspect of Doctor Octopus as Spider-Man – a nice example here, particularly in panel 2. Otto’s kind of emerging from the darkness, and the dark parts of his costume are blended with the shadows. Also check out his spider bots crawling on him and on the wall – cool stuff, and again, creepy! As he talks with Jackson, telling him he needs to incorporate his tech into his spider bots, we got some head shots of him with those lenses…I always thought those were a neat way to bring some “Doc Ock” into the Spidey look :) As always, thanks for looking, and thanks John! Camo did excellent consistent work on Spidey for years. "History" will decide but I put my money on hom being considered one of the classic modern Spidey artists.

You know, I don't think I had explicity thought that before, but I'm tending to agree. He's a great storyteller, I love his figure work, and his style, particularly for Spidey, is so distinctive. So as you say, history will tell, but I'm thinking more and more he'll be in that "great modern Spidey artist" camp. Here's hoping to see him do more Spidey work to help the cause :) Thanks, F, and all, for the comments!

What a great Superior Spider-Man example! You are so right about how those spider bots crawling over his body are incredibly creepy. I loved Camuncoli's work on this title, and I actually miss Doc Ock being a Spider-Man. I really have no idea what has become of him ...

What a great page man!!! Excellent example. Giuseppe did terrific work on the series. I loved Superior Spider-Man it was such a wonderful surprise and could have easily gone very wrong.

Just like a Wolf spider carrying its young. Creepy and cool, for sure. Great pick up!

Exactly! Hadn't thought of that but it does have that vibe. Definitely ups the "creepy" factor :) Thanks for the add!
