DescriptionI’ve focused this year on picking up pieces from artists I did not have a piece from yet, and it’s gone well. 15 new artists this year, and I’m gonna keep rollin’ with number 16 here – Mr. Geoff Shaw! Picked this up from Jiggy Cruz – thanks again, sir!The highlight here is the Thanos splashy shot – the upward perspective, the pose, the lighting…you know this guy’s a heavy hitter. But what I liked just as much is how the image is incorporated into the storytelling. It’s a hologram, and lil’ bro Eros is literally looking up at him while saying he’s always looked up to him (see additional published image). He’s lamenting how “easy” Thanos had it, and there’s a tinge of jealousy there, with Thanos always being so sure of himself. And of course you have Thanos smiling! It’s a hologram but with that zoomed-in shot in panel 4 you feel like Thanos is getting a kick out of this, almost saying “aww, poor baby brother. Need a hug?” Cold dude. Makes for some great OA :) Hope you like and stay tuned for more artists firsts in the coming weeks. And make sure to check out Jiggy’s staple of artists at www.nextcomicart.com! Social/Sharing |

Cool page from a GoTG run i personally enjoyed reading! Gotta love the Thanos hologram and the Eros monologue. Nice work on picking up so many new artists this year so far!

Shaw does a killer Thanos! I've loved seeing Shaw's work while working hand in hand with Cates to evolve the cosmic side of Marvel. Congrats on such an excellent piece of Shaw's work!

Yeah, man, I'm catching up on some of what I missed, but am aware of this newer character they created...Cosmic Ghost Rider, I think? CGR? ;) I was aware of Shaw's art but dug in more after I saw a lot of your great pieces, Rob. Thanks man, and all, for the comments!

Almost pissed my pants when I enlarged the image. Tremendous monument to Thanos.

You know, I certainly don't remember Starfox being a "manly man" back in the 80's, but I also don't quite remember him being a simpering, spineless little worm either. Plenty of collectors say they like contemporary art but refuse to collect it because they don't like that the captions and word balloons aren't on the art, to which I say, to each his own. But on a page like this, with Starfox snivelling the way he is, it's a great thing that the word balloons aren't included so they don't completely distract the viewer from the great imagery found here. "I always looked up to you."? Ugh....Grow a pair, loser!

Eros's face had recently been scarred, so maybe that's part of it. If I remember he did have a little vain streak to himself. But still...yeah...you could learn a little from big bro, Starfox! :) Glad you dig the art, Ruben - thanks!

Nothing for Eros to feel bad about. His conquests are more intimate and made the ladies tremble across the universe.

Excellent page! I like it so much that by pure coincidence I purchased a similar but opposite page earlier tonight mere moments before I saw this (you'll see once I actually have it in hand and post it).

Super cool, page, K! Wow, that big splash of Thanos made me gasp when I saw it... and then panel four sucked all the air out of me. Thanos smiling trumps towering Thanos (regardless of how impressive towering Thanos is)! Your ability to showcase incredible new artists I haven't seen before is only ONE of your amazing superpowers, and displaying the fruits of your 2021 "new artist" goal has been a treat for us all - many thanks, man. :) Great page! (You need a published Immonen! :) )

Yeah, I love the full Thanos figure but that smiling headshot was the closer, J :) As far as showcasing new artists, I gotta give a BIG assist to fellow collector bud, Rob R - check out his Cosmic Ghost Rider collection. Some of Shaw's best pieces to date! And yes...Immonen is a big hole I NEED to close.I will get there, friend, I will get there :) Thanks!

I love the dramatic lighting. Especially how the inking brings out the muscularity of Thanos. Beautifully done. Congrats.

Congrats on such a powerful Geoff Shaw pick-up. Funny, just the other day I was thinking about how TV shows with brotherly conflict/jealousy have always been so effective --- "Frasier" is my favorite example (good ol' Niles). Just finished "The 4400," which used that plot device extremely well with Shawn & Danny (great show by the way, and they are reviving it!). Even "Cheers" had a great episode pitting Sam against his super successful brother. This page carries on that grand tradition. And let's face it, if your brother is Thanos, there is GONNA be conflict.

Little bro Eros can't handle swole big brother Thanos. "Aww, man, I'll never match those pecs." "Yeah, I'm only a holgram with no real muscle mass, but no, no you definitely won't." :Holoflex: Man, they just do Thanos and Titan stories correctly. Who can't commiserate a little with sibling rivalry? Details like this are why Marvel will always be my favorite. (I still think you're pretty, DC :)). Picking up all new artists is a great collecting goal. Good luck, Kahlil. And congrats!

I think what's tough for Eros is he was always the brother with the looks. Didn't have the big purple ripple chin. But now he doesn't even have that. But you must stay confident - very important. Yet another lesson you could learn from big bro. Agh! He'll figure it out...hopefully :) And just as Paul P notes with with other media - sibling rivalry's definitely relatable. I imagine just a tad ramped up with the Mad Titan here :) Thanks, man!

Oh man - this is an absolute showstopper from a memorable series by Cates and Shaw. Loved how they utilized and depicted Eros.
