DescriptionNice looking add here today, if I do say so myself! I remember being at a con some years back and seeing smaller pieces Adam had done on this kind of textured grey/brown paper, and really liking how they looked. There were some neat effects he was able to render with the black inks paired with pops of white against the darker backdrop. But at the time, though I liked them, I thought they were a little pricey for non-published smaller pieces, mostly waist up single character images. But I didn’t forget. So, when I saw this bigger published piece done on 11x17, having everything I liked about what I’d seen before and then some, I was all over it.Love those white ink glint effects throughout, particularly on Iron Man. That’s what drew me first visually, then the overall composition with this particular mix of characters. Got Miles (I don’t have enough art featuring him!) and this was my first piece featuring Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. I like the determination in her face here! Composition’s layered, with one character behind another, and the Italian landscape in the background. I believe that’s the Cinque Terre on the Riviera coastline. Or maybe Lake Como? I’ve never been to Italy myself, but hope to one day. And I also hope my fellow collectors who are hitting the Lake Como Comic Art Festival in a couple months have a BLAST. JELLY over here :) Lastly, really dug the movement brought on, in part with that horizontal orientation. You can feel the 3 Avengers flying/swinging/running at high speed! The image was shrunk down when published (see additional images), which is fine to keep the orientation, but you gotta see it full size to really take it in. Thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Very beautiful piece, Kahlil. I was just about to start by saying how much I always love it when artists draw on textured and colored paper, the way Joe Kubert sometimes did. Only then did I notice this piece is drawn by his son! The paper gives it a nice, monochromatic look and as a fan of textures in art, the choice of textured paper is wonderful. Lovely acquisition!

Yup, I agree. I may have to look at more art on paper like this. I hear you on the monochromatic look Gotta love how the texture played out on the areas of subtle white shading, like on Kamala's hair and arms. Thanks, man, and all for the comments!

Matt Wagner used to do a lot of this stuff, working with different colored/textured paper. Always made for interesting looks and effects. Haven't really seen anyone else do it until now. Really nice job by Adam.

Great Kubert piece and it's nice to see that horizontal movement like you discuss in this art. Congrats!

Love it, man! Adam's really been able to shine when he strays into these other mediums and this one's no exception. Congrats!

I really dig how Kubert used the white ink, and the city in the background looks amazing.

Wow - BEAUTIFUL piece, K - this is stunning! As you say, the glistening armor draws you in (love the execution of the then-modern faceplate), but Miles is what keeps you sticking around (and Ms. Khan looks amazing, too). REALLY great work. I love the textured paper (and was going to mention the Matt Wagner pieces I'd seen which also employed the technique, but Eric was all over it :) ). After having scouted out his smaller pieces like this, I can imagine you were over the moon to find an 11x17 beauty like this, and I don't blame you one whit. Incredible! (And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the city in the background is Minas Tirith. 😜 )

Miles is what keeps you "sticking" around, lol. Intended pun there?! And good eye by you and Eric regarding Wagner. I'm not super familiar with his art but after doing some quick image research, I can see it no doubt. And yes, Minas Tirith! Before or after the siege?! :) Thanks, man!

What a great sense of energy and movement to this one. I like how Kamala and Iron Man are leaning forward, while Miles is leaning back in the middle. Makes for a really nice composition. And yeah, I really dig those glinty effects -- they really pop on that grey paper. Great add!!!

Awesome add, Kahlil. I’m a sucker for colored paper pieces. The change of the neutral/midtown color allows for cool effects like those glistening white highlights!

During a meeting with the All New All Different Avengers...
Times have changed. It's not like the Old Days, when we can do anything we want. A refusal is not the act of a friend. If KG had all the artists, and the art dealers in New York, then he must share them, or let us others buy from them. He must let us draw the water from the lake. Certainly he can present a bill for such services; after all... we are not Cruel lines.

Avengers Assembled! This is awesome, Kahlil. Those glints really catch your eye, as you said. The subtle techniques on that armor are sick. Look at just the work in the chest plate. It is soo good. And how he creates depth is a simple choice that kills. Great Kubert cover. Big congrats!

Wonderful piece! It's like I can feel the movement of the characters when I look at it. This is the first time I've seen something like this from Kubert, and now I want to see more.

Wicked shot indeed. The original feels like it's bigger than the published art just here alone. I'll bet it's a monster in person. Congrats!
