DescriptionFF villains continue! Here, Owen Reece, the Molecule Man! I know…the Molecule Man?! Lol. I’ve had a soft spot for this dude since way back in Secret Wars. I remember thinking about the duality (definitely wasn’t thinking THAT word specifically as a kid but you know what I mean!) of this quirky unconfident dude being uber powerful, with almost no limit to what he could do. And that’s definitely been played up in later comics – see the Ultimates 2 series from 2016. Great stuff. But the real reason for this pickup wasn’t really the character, but getting my first Zaffino piece, particularly where he played up the essence of the character. Like here! In this cover done literally for Marvel's "FF Villains Variant" month at the time. All the cubes, spheres, and other shapes up top combined with his expression and overall frenetic nature of the image…makes you feel like “if this dude loses it, if he pops…” Gerardo following in the footsteps of his late great father, while still developing all his own. Just love all the textures here, and the colored image ain’t too shabby either. Picked it up from fellow collector bud M L, who also created and included an overlay – see in additional images :) Hope y’all like, and stay tuned for more FF bad guys! Social/Sharing |

Wow that is super intense, in a really great way! It's like Molecule Man's face is cracking and crumbling from the raw emotion he is experiencing. Dang, this is awesome!

This guy has the power to control and manipulate the molecules of people and objects, thereby making him what should be the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe. That power, when thought about in real world context, is absolutely terrifying. Ergo, this masterpiece shows him in that very terrifying light and Zaffino Jr. has shown that he has surpassed even his own father in outright skill and talent. Felicitations!

Someone is about to have a really bad day. Or maybe they already did? We don't know what those balls and cubes are made of...Man, I'm right there with you on both Zaffino's work, and a goofy love for Molecule Man. Owen never looked more fierce. And all that awesome, chaotic but precise technique. So sweet. All covalent bonds in this piece!

MM having a bad day means literally EVERYONE else could have one, too! "Goofy love" is a good way to put our mutual affinity for Owen. Secret Wars, baby...that book STAYS with you, don't it?! Thanks, J!

Fantastic Zaffino, K G!! Another FF villain perfectly captured (well, so to speak... :) ). Incredibly gripping and dramatic image, but the execution here is what really blows me away. I love how everything starts out wild, universal, elemental, uncontained at the top of the page, and then, through outstanding composition, becomes more and more defined, formed, and focused as the viewer's eye is funnelled down the page. We're pulled to center by the lighting at the bottom of the geographic shapes, then we land on on the face, then the hands, then MM's arrow logo, down to the singularity point - Zaffino's signature itself. SO cool; SO good. Spectacular FF villain, K G! LOVE this! Great pick up - congrats!

Totally agre, Jason, and the lighting coming from below really adds to the effect. And I did not see how we close on Zaff's signature! Love that. Always appreciate hearing what others see that I didn't in a piece - you good at that, man :) Thanks!

Holy shit! Looks like this guy's about to go Super Saiyan with intent to render life extinct. Beautiful piece with emotion and a promising power surge. You should request a "one minute later" cover and see what the damages are! Congrats!

Ooh, OML...not a bad idea, Nash. That could go different ways. Does he cool off? Does he blow?! What does either look like?! I may yet venture to find out :) Glad you dig the piece, and thanks for the add and idea!

Indeed the "frenetic nature of the image" is powerful. Lighting bolts and eyes afire. I'm loving the raw energy of everything I see Zaffino put out.
