DescriptionHaven’t seen the "all-new" Cap flick yet but will in the next few days. Whatever my thoughts about the movie after I see it…I LOVE the "all-new" Sam Wilson Cap arc from the comics.Stuart Immonen is a top modern storyteller and though I haven’t read everything he’s done, I have read a lot, and this book is one of his best things IMO. He’s on point both in quieter moments as well as louder/action scenes and the first 10 pages of this first issue are just a masterclass as far as the latter. Glad to have a piece from it! He throws the shield in the prior page, then as you move top down here you can see the ricocheting taking out some dudes then back to him in that perfect 4th panel…then back to flight after! He’s traversing down a cave to a secret Hyrda base. And check out how in panel 2 he’s basically flipping out of it into the next…so cool. And let’s not forget the sweet ink assist from common collaborator, Wade von Grawbadger! Was also fortunate to have included as part of Phillip Thompson’s “Collections in Black” exhibition at the August Wilson Cultural Center in Pittsburgh, PA from July 2024 to January 2025. GREAT showing, Big Phill. Hope y’all like! And as I write this I think I needs to get me more Immonen art :) Social/Sharing |

Chock full of action and that Falcon image in the last panel is the absolute bee's knees. Look at you getting all ready for the new Cap movie!

Amazing action and camera shots in all these panels make for a great All-New Cap/Sam Wilson run page! Immonen is a badass with his pencils and WVG inks him excellently. Enjoy the new movie!

That shield's path is pure poetry across the page. Immonen has really surged up my ranks these last few years, and getting to see amazing pages like this is a big reason why. Congrats, my friend- hope you can reunite it with the preceding page someday!

He fights for all of us, Captain of the free
He's All American, Immonen means that much to me
Taking Sam on the edge of life just like Hulk that's red
I look inside and scream and shout 'cause there's no point to second best
There's a raging fire, ink my art in lines
Flying higher Grawbadger with a soul!
There's a raging fire in the sky tonight
I wanna fight all the Hydra dopes far into the flight
'Til I make you take me on your mighty wings
Make you take me on your mighty wings across the lines
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings to fight

Great page from a great arc. I also think it's one of Stuart's bests.

Two peas on this one, F. LOVE those aerial battle pages vs Baron Blood you have from issues 5 and 6. Glad to join the club here. Thanks for the add!

Likewise as far as appreciation, man. Includes your wanting to use the art but even moreso your gumption as far as getting that exhibition started and up and going. And it ain't over - 'til the next CiB!

Really great action page! Nice flow in the middle 3 panels, with each subsequent panel getting larger, until you hit the last image of Cap flying. Great example of Stuart's work.

What an amazing action page!! Okay -- it may be that Falcon Cap hurls the shield on the preceding page -- but how cool of a movie scene would this page make on its own? The scene starts with a shield appearing out of nowhere, just wreaking havoc on the bad guys, then we see Cap falling as the shield continues to ping and pong...then Cap's hand reaches up to grab the shield and says "Ah, my new friend...let's resume." And he soars away. Immonen is such a master story teller. Congrats on this one!

The shield's arc in that first panel is the hook, but the rest of the page's action sequence is just sick! Huge congrats, Khalil!

BOOM!! There it is! I'm right with you, K - that Remender / Immonen run sealed the deal and cemented Sam as Cap for me. Loved those issues so much... They exploded out of the gate, propelled by fantastic character development and positively supersonic art by Stuart and Wade (I mean, here we are on page 6 of issue 1, with Sam halfway through dismantling a Hydra base...).
A super busy page in the -best- possible way: bursting with gorgeously drawn detail, but the viewer's eye never gets lost in the bustle: the shield hitting the shaded-in goon on the left of panel 1 (and its clear white trajectory after impact), then popping Sam's balletic aerial arc out of the borders of panel 2... that leads the viewer's eye -RIGHT- into the path of the shield in panel 3... which then guides the reader right back to Sam (popping against the white "pit")... who (of course) grabs the shield in panel 4 (with INCREDIBLE crosshatching on the shield, working to re-establish it as a central object after being just a blur on the first half of the page)...
All that is lead-up to the senses-shattering panel 5, when Sam hits the jets and flies forward with impossible velocity (thanks to von Grawbadger doing his most delicious and ferocious manga-style-speed inking). This is an artist and inker at the peak of their powers, excited to be tackling something new and bold, and your post here serves as a great movie-opening-weekend reminder that Sam and Stu and Wade all kick -serious- butt. :) FANTASTIC grab, K! Huge congrats! LOVE this!

Yup, you said it Jason! If any of y'all didn't know that Jason liked this page, a LOT, see his comment :) I know you and F M are fellow big fans of this arc and glad you like seeing more OA from it on here on CAF. I also know you're a huge Immonen fan...I'm planning to get more art from him but have a little ways to go to catch up with you :) Thanks for the add, man!
