DescriptionHappy Valentine’s Day, all! Thought it’d be a good a day to post this piece featuring probably my favorite X lady in Ms. Ororo Munroe!Definitely one of Chucky Penero’s best, if not best, examples – no bias :) Love the upward perspective choice and the subsequent lighting effect – dramatic stuff. And the semi shadowed face?! Pretty clear there’s a storm comin’… Also dig how her hair is sort of floating – adds to the slow descent effect. “The calm before the storm”. OK, I’ll stop :) Lastly, some great hatch-y detail and spatter effects, done subtly, but when you blow up the image and take a closer look? Apparent that a lot of work when into this one. And you got drawing all the way to the edges of the 11x17 art board! Weather goddess, indeed! Social/Sharing |

The worm's eye view perspective is the primary thing that gives the piece the sense of dramatic tension it has. Keeping her face mostly in shadow accentuates that. The cross hatching and spatter effects only add to the power the piece already exhibits and deciding to make it full bleed puts the icing on the cake. Kudos, Kahlil!

This is what b&w art was meant to look like. Such a striking image and love the perfectly balanced contrast of blacks and whites. Harder to pull off than one might think.

She is an absolute beauty, easy to see why she is a favorite, and omega level powerful. Congrats on this pin-up!

Congrats on a cool piece. The negative space use on the hands really pops on this one!

Yes, Nash, and I absolutely agree! A force as well as a beacon - well put! Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

So much here to love, and that is very appropriate for Valentine's Day. Really beautiful & dramatic portrayal of the enigmatic Storm! Fantastic addition!

Yes, I thought a prudent V Day post. Your words - beautiful, dramatic, enigmatic - all definitely apply. There have been more than a handful of times when my wife is approaching...is this going to be good or bad for me?! :) Thanks, Paul!

Absolutely incredible, K. Even among the fantastic pieces you've posted lately, this one is a true standout. Amazing composition and execution (the POV, shading, and spatter effects are all off the charts) conspire to make this one truly special. The divine Ms. Munroe has been the subject of no shortage of gorgeous renderings - she's been drawn by the very best of the very best - and this one is right up there in my mind: less "pin up" and more "shut up", just the way a goddess should be depicted. This should be a cover (and I should dig into Chucky's work)! Mega congrats, K - outstanding piece!

Glad you like it as much as you do, Jason! I agree that Ms. Munroe is definitely a character that's tops in terms of artists being able to really show out their skills in terms of rendering powerful, elegant, and dramatic portrayels. And Chucky definitely did his thing here! "Less pin up and more shut up" - I Iike that one, man :) Agreed! Thanks!

That's a lot of technique on one page! And all the way to the edges? Damn, that's a carpal tunnel special, to be sure. Love the angle and tricks throughout, especially the negative work. And so much lovely ink. Chucky makes the watch list, this is excellent work. Thanks for artist educating, as always. :) Congrats!

I think we are about to see what happens to a toad when it’s struck by lightning!

Mind-blowing Storm drawing! Love the low POV, making it seem like she's hovering above us. The lighting is extraordinary as well, with her face and body lit from behind, making her look ominous and threatening. It's an absolutely awe-inspiring piece! Congrats!

"You called down the thunder, well now you've got it!" Couldn't help but think about that line from one of my favorite flicks, Tombstone :) Thanks, David!

I can't believe I missed this one! This is an amazingly composed piece, it's so lively, love the lightning and the hair. I think I may have to try to get something done by Penero in the future because of this piece. Another killer addition, congrats man!

I love the heavy use of black ink in this. Storm looks amazingly menacing. This looks incredible.
