DescriptionJust can’t get enough of Eric’s work. I get a piece and say “OK, I’m good on the Canete front”. Then I’m not, lol. Just take a look at his rendition of the Iron Avenger here. I mean…you get it, right?!The big thing with Eric for me is his unique twists design-wise – clearly Iron Man here but with Eric’s stylization, particularly in the details around the armor and the plates, where they break up. Both up top and bottom, and the top being red vs bottom with more of a true “iron” coloring provides a NICE contrast. Let alone the background colors. The faceplate also takes me back to New Avengers and the David Finch look. And the blueish green color and sheen on the chest reactor took it over the top. Pairs well with my Canete Doctor Doom piece :) https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1718885 Thanks for lookin’! Social/Sharing |

Interesting and gritty take on the character. Nice change of pace from the usual pristine and polished look of the armor.

Completely agree, he is an amazing designer. Canete is also one of those artists that I keep coming back to...

Ha ha, not sure I see that, but I like how we all get different things from art! Thanks, all, for the comments!

Canete is beast mode incarnated. Love this shot of the Iron Avenger with a true twist. Congrats!

Design is sound, grab your artwork and get down
Even Doom must know
We've been here before and we're gon' relive it all
Its time to let it show
Eric Canete, world on the line
(Yo fellas y'all colors brush up)
So sweet and nimble
Gotta get the Tony (gotta get the Tony)
Oohh it's too late
Can't believe a thing about the new Stark swing
New Can-ete!
New Can-ete!
(New Stark swing baby!)
New Can-ete!
(Shake that Tony!)
New Can-ete!
Before the sale is over and it's time to make that move
Somebody gotta win, somebody got to choose
Stop procrastinatin', and anticipatin'
Get a new Can-ete, there's no hesitating!

Cool, he created the same wonderful texture of the metal here that he captured on the Doctor Doom piece he did for you. Nice choice of colors, quite subtle in fact. I haven't read Iron Man in decades though. When exactly did this version of the character have his left leg amputated below the knee?

This Iron Man is ready for his own ANIME series, loved it when Marvel was testing the waters with Manga X-Men and some anime tv shows (Wolverine and X-Men series).
Great pin-up piece by a talented artist.

Man, there's a few that mentioned the anime/manga look! I didn't even get that, but kinda see it now :) And yes, agree with those Marvel Manga series - if nothing else we saw our classic heroes newly presented in a SWEET animation style! Thanks, James!

An absolutely beautiful and unique design. You know Canete is awesome when you look at his take on a character (like Iron Man) who basically gets a redesign whenever anyone draws him and you end up thinking, "Wow - I've never seen it quite like -that- before..." :) I think this is his take specifically on Hitch's Ultimate Iron Man design (wow - never seen it quite like -that- before...) and make no mistake - this is BATTLE ARMOR. Gone are the sleek lines and elegance of Tony's "cruise" models; this is chitonous plating and sea urchin spines everywhere; it means business... And, yeah - that chest arc reactor is amazing! Gorgeous colors here to pop the wicked design, K! Fantastic piece - congrats!!

"HEAVY METAL" - yeah, man definitely thought that when looking at this piece, particularly the torso and legs. Just a real weight to the armor. As you say, "means business". Didn't initially see the Hitch look, but yeah, I can see that connection. Canete did an Iron Man miniseries, and has dones a fair amount of non-published Iron Man pieces, but all have their own unique flair! Glad you like, man, and thanks for the add!

I dig this. Magna influenced but so much detail thrown on top! Really great to look at and come back to in order to see what you missed last time compared to this time.

It's funny you mention that, SC. Just the other day, saw this piece again, and thought about the hip discs on the classic armor. Here, there are discs/clasps on the upper thighs. Made me wonder if Eric was doing his own spin on that design element! I don't know, but I plan on asking :) Thanks for the comment - glad you like!
