DescriptionPicked this up awhile back directly from Nick Cagnetti at a con. Great artist, great guy, and a fellow Arizonian! So yeah…come on…I HAD to pick up the Black Panther piece he had in his portfolio, right?! Yes, being a huge BP fan is part of it, but right when I saw it I dug the contrast of the blue/shadowed BP vs the reddish/pinkish jungle surroundings and background. And who doesn’t love BP stalking his prey from the trees?! Also fun to have that serious expression of his kinda juxtaposed with the more light and cartoony style Nick has. I wrote “pinkish” a second ago...that reminds me…Pink Lemonade! That’s Nick’s creator owned book that was just collected into a great hardcover volume last year. Colorful, fun, upbeat and offbeat story with nostalgic vibe. Or if you just wanna look at some good art in the vein of Mike Allred, get it for that, too! And if Nick’s at a con you’re attending, stop by – super nice dude! Social/Sharing |

The shapes and forms he's playing with are super interesting. I really like the impact this piece makes, and really reminds me of Kirby by way of Glaubitz. Thanks for sharing - will have to check Nick's work out.

definately gives off some old school Black Panther vibes from the earlier appearances but also has a specific unique style of his own. nice piece to run into at a convention, good grab!

Oh yea, the contrast is great on this piece. The patterns he used for the foliage actually kind of remind me of patters you see on other jungle cats, that's cool. Great pick up. Congrats!

Dude, I didn't even see that but now that you mention it, how could I NOT have seen it?! Adds even more to the piece! Love it when my fellow collectors see things in my art that I didn't :)
Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

It's interesting to me that the artist chose blue and black for character, but it does work out well. Nice add for sure!!!

Absolutely love Cagnetti and he nailed it with this! Love his sharp lines but the color takes it up another level. I feel like this could make for good trading card art. Congrats KG, we need more Cagnetti!

We ain't good mood, but he still good
We ain't good mood, but he still good
I hate Chadwick didn't make it to forever
Probably ain't gettin' back as Panther
But that don't mean that I can't wish you better
He is a good dude, and he still cool
I realize that you’re in Arizona
Let's just keep it honest with T’Challa
Nick Cagnetti for you when you find in colors
We all good good, and he still cool
Who knew it'd be like this?
Usually my prey just turns to enemies
But this is different
'Cause we done Wakanda now that with pink in trees (oh)
All that love that we had
Lemonade we gon' attack that
And your Cagnetti love me like I'm family
You know where you stand with me
So when they ask, tell 'em
Right one, right place, all mine
Can't say this isn't fly
This dude’s always been a real one
Better though he does Black Panther
It is real love, and KG, it's still love

SO good, MW. As usual, includes lyrics on the piece itself, my description, and on this one you added some welcome emotional beats.
For a couple years I posted a BP piece in memory of the all-too-early passing of the late great Chadwick Boseman but decided "OK, probably will go ahead and stop that now".
So I didn't actually realize I posted this piece the day after the 4th anniversary! And your post here reminded me - appreciate that, brother. AND on this same day, August 28th, we have Jack the King Kirby's birthday! And a couple folks have mentioned how this piece have a Kirby feel to it.
Maybe someone's trying to tell me something :)
RIP, King and Prince.

Very cool piece. The colors are great, and the background really makes Black Panther stand out.

Nick loves comics and it shows so much in his work. I love seeing his work and it's great to see him draw BP.

FANTASTIC color work on this one, with lighting that is exactly, dramatically -right-. My first thought the instant I saw it was "Kirby", but examining all the parts more closely, it's not a clone of the King at all (Kirby, I mean - you gotta specify when you're talking about a T'Challa piece :) ); the physique is more lithe, the power in the stance is less bombastic, the claws are sharper... but It just has that beautiful, confident, comforting feel that great Kirby art has. Super cool pick up - really like this one!. Love the pose, eyes, and mask, too. Great piece, K! Congrats!

Always appreciate your insights on my posts, man, thanks! There is indeed a throwback Kirby feel and you're the second to mention that after M L. Maybe a Kirby tech tree branch would take it over the top...naw...a little too "on the nose"! Also see Marcus's comment above as well as my reply. Another Kirby connection with this add :)

Love the contrast between the simple design of the Black Panther and the complex nature of the background...

Of course you had to pick up this Black Panther piece from Nick's portfolio! I mean, look at it! It's so incredibly cool! Love the colors, backgrounds and mood of this piece. BP is drawn so beautifully. Huge congrats!

A really nice piece, Kahlil! I gotta say though, I don't see Allred at all. This is pure Steve Rude vibes all day!
