DescriptionI've had this for a while, and I finally made a scan when it was published in the new Star Wars Comics book from Lucasfilm. Regardless, this cover represents one of my earliest Star Wars memories, and as a piece of comic art, it is one of the favorites in my collection.Social/Sharing |

Altho I was perplexed that Luke didn't look like Mark Hamill. What a blast from the past.

As I saw the first issue of the comic before the movie came out, this is indeed my earliest Star Wars memory. It was a great part of the whole Star Wars experience as a kid. I am so glad to know this exists and is in good hands.

Another jewel from your collection, which is jaw-dropping, congrats!! I wonder if George Lucas tried to buy it, since I think that he collects artwork from the adaptations of his movies. I couldn't avoid to notice that there were some changes in the published cover: http://tinyurl.com/dxk2svz

Star Wars + Comics? That is like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup commercial. Two great tastes that taste great together. The museum gets another artifact. Bravo!

Congratulations on another mega-buck piece in the collection !!!!
You really do need to open a museum my friend. You cannot continue this obsession to hoard the comic book industry's most treasured artwork like Uncle Scrooge, let us peasants feast our eyes on these jewells !!!!!

Bought multiple copies of this comic off the rack and drew this cover over and over. Terrific memories, I still have one of the versions I drew as a kid. Wow, congrats David.

Holy cow, I clicked on a link to this (didn't know where the link was taking me, other than it was Star Wars related) and as soon as my brain registered what I was viewing, the resulting shock made it feel as if I got punched in the face. Absolutely historic piece. Congrats!

For me, this is as memorable as any Star Wars imagery, which is quite an accomplishment for the artists given how many times I sat through the actual movie and given how much merchandising there was! Chaykin did a standout job on this series and Palmer is just fantastic

I feel like I am 8 years old again and everything in my life was Star Wars related. Great time to post on the release of the new movie which will hopefully make up for the previous 3 disasters.

Some covers are iconic, while others are somehow...beyond iconic. This is that cover.

I remember when having this book represented the most important thing I added to my comic collection, for me... Dave if you ever decide to show your collection local gallery I hope you let all of us know. I'd drive to New York to see this in person.

My middle son just got me a Father's Day card this year with this cover on it. Priceless.
Everything is a bit off on the cover, because Marvel didn't exactly know what Star Wars looked like yet. Issue #1 was released April 12, 1977 and the movie was released May 25, 1977. They were kind of guessing at first. It must have been produced from an earlier version of the script, because there are scenes that weren't on the screen in the film. I still loved it, and still do love it, just the same.
