DescriptionA good way to start 2011. This is a great vintage piece Caniff did for a fraternity. It is a fun piece that is well rendered. What I really like about this piece is that it really marks his evolution as an artist. I have a daily from 1934 and although you know the greatness that is to come there are only hints in it. By this time, he had really matured his style but there was still more of a very young Terry look and feel to this piece. My favorite time period for Caniff was slightly after this, around '37-40 but particularly the earlier part of that run.Social/Sharing |

Hey Jeff, What an awesome pick for starting the year. I really like it, specially all the work developed on the backgrounds. And with Terry, Pat & Connie!

Ah, I wondered who wound up with this wonderful strip. I'm glad to see that it's in very good hands. And Caniff specialty pieces are very scarce, since he sent out prints so early in the run on Terry. A great pick-up Jeff. Congratulations!

It does seem to reflect the times, I do wonder how much fraternal organizations have changed. After all, they generally seem to exist to attract similar people as opposed to diversity.
