Description

Title page to "Death is a Green Man." Amazingly detailed line work by Alcala, especially this splash page, with series host: Death. And look at the detail of the clouds. Amazing! This story is very similar to the Twilight Zone episode "The Purple Testament" where a WWII soldier stationed in the Philippines sees a strange light on the faces of those men in his platoon who are about to be killed in battle. In this Weird War Tales story from issue #20, this solider, a pilot in the Royal Air Force, sees his comrades fated soon-to-die glow green. This story was published in December of 1973, a fine year for AA work. Written by Deadman/Doom Patrol/Guardians of the Galaxy co-creator, Arnold Drake.

The best Alcala splash hands down I have seen and yet you do injustice to this page by putting in a small scan. I want to see the details of this fabulous beautiful splash man!!!

Glorious Alcala! His clouds are wonderful. Of course he does nice planes and ships. This one, however, has a water landing accentuated by the white where the plane skids on the water.
