Description

When Phillip Anderson commissioned me to do a pencil drawing for his 11"X17" MYTHOLOGY sketchbook, I was happy to do it. Unfortunately I had to follow a beautifully illustrated double-page title spread by the amazing MARK SCHULTZ! Yikes! Mark is one of my favorite artists (and one of my favorite friends), and he had delivered a masterpiece in Phillip's sketchbook, so I was a little intimidated to be sure. Mark is an impossible act to follow because he's THAT good! Finally though, I decided to just draw something, and not to worry about the inevitable comparison. All I wanted to do was to be able to hold up my head high, and to not let Phillip down. So I set about drawing Circe the Witch, and did my best to give him his moneys' worth. I wound up producing one of my best commissions, and I had fun doing it. Phillip was pleased with my efforts and even sent me some wine! What a super-nice guy! Thanks for the commission, Phillip! I'm available anytime!
