DescriptionKevin Maguire's great Red Skull from, "The Adventures of Captain America." This is the cliffhanger ending for the third issue. This series was like a wonderful old movie serial. I still get a trill from looking back through the issues. It would have been great to see the Maguire versions of Cap and the Skull battling in the final issue. Heck, I wish Marvel would approach the original creative team about completing the series for a deluxe hardcover. This image is a photo, as the original would not fit my scanner.Social/Sharing |

Man... This is amazing and brings back so many memories of such a great series. Page 1-3 of Book 4 would be amazing to find.

The creators managed to capture a mixture of comics and serial action to perfection. The time period was spot on. It is a real shame that Maguire, for whatever reason, was unable to provide art for the whole run. What he did produce was wonderful. I would still love to see Marvel collect this in a hardcover version.

What I loved about this series is they weren't afraid to really focus on Cap during his WW2 era. I enjoy Cap anytime, but his adventures as a super soldier during WW2 were always my favorite. It was something I was actually looking forward to when they announced the movie. Unfortunately, it just felt like a huge montage to get him to Avengers.

A total WW2 adventure, instead of the montage, would have been great. Come to think of it, The newsreel portions gave us a good look at what should have been on screen throughout the film. While I did enjoy the movie, I would have preferred this treatment of the character. I would have loved to see the series costume used in the film. Kevin Maguire gave us a fantastic depiction. For me, the straight Nazi's were preferable to Hydra as the bad guys. I think Mr Kirby would have agreed on the latter point.
