DescriptionOf all the numerous Golden-Age & Silver-Age comic book artists that have rendered cover recreations over the past 4-decades or so, no other artist has probably been more questioned (other than Jack Kirby as of recent) about the actual definitive work he may have or have not contributed to these cover recreations than that of Robert "Bob" Kane. While Bob Kane rendered but a few tried & true comic book cover recreations during his lifetime, much of Kane's "published" post-comic book career projects has always been very suspect to the identities involved in creating these works. Well, this specific Batman #1 pencil & India ink "reinterpreted" cover recreation illo. is one of the ultra rare examples that Bob Kane "100% penciled & inked". As the story goes, this very special "Batman #1" pencil & India ink "reinterpreted" cover recreation illo. was created by Bob Kane in 1974 for the specific purpose of trading for Golden-Age Batman-related comics with a fan of his. Some 10 years later, this very fortunate Bob Kane "Batman" fan opted to $ell this actual "Batman #1" pencil & India ink "reinterpreted" cover recreation illo. via Wooley's Auction Gallery on October 11, 1984 and was then ultimately $old in the ComicConnect.com online auction on August 8, 2011 so the lineage & provenance on this super rare & significantly iconic "100%" Bob Kane illustration is very well documented. From the 1960's up until Bob Kane's passing on November 3, 1998, the majority of his paintings & illustrations simply never had that honest to goodness vintage Batman-feel to them such as the way Kane originally drew The Batman during the first couple of years after his initial creation by him. Besides this Batman #1" pencil & India ink "reinterpreted" cover recreation illo. being "100% penciled & inked" by Kane, I most especially loved the fact that "The Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder" authentically resembled the style that Bob Kane originally illustrated them in 1939 & 1940:-) (10/24/15 to 11/3/98)Social/Sharing |

Wonderful recreation - instantly recognizable! Plus it must be incredibly satisfying to be able to trace its ownership.
