I almost can't believe I'm actually handling pages from this iconic illustrated version of Alfred Bester's remarkable tale of survival, revenge and eventual redemption, as brilliantly depicted by the fierce & experimental young talent of Howard Chaykin from way back in 1979! This is one of the first sophisticated colour American graphic novels, #5 in the Millennium SF Masterworks series, a library of the finest science fiction ever written. This book earns it's place, with interest.

When it comes to pop culture, Alfred Bester (1913-1987) is something of an unsung hero. He wrote radio scripts, screenplays, and comic books (in which capacity he created the original Green Lantern Oath). But Bester is best known for his science-fiction novels, and The Stars My Destination may be his finest creation. With its sly potshotting at corporate skullduggery, The Stars My Destination seems utterly contemporary, and has maintained its status as an underground classic for fifty years.

Made one hell of an impression on my young mind, so having this incredible artwork in my hands after all this time is...well, it's time travel. A landmark work, written by the man who won the very first Hugo Award in 1953 and, of course, painted by one of the finest graphic storytellers of our time.

Great page layout and experimentation to the page. There's a rawness to The Stars my Destination and there a great deal of energy in the art that propels one of the best sci fi novels.

Agreed! Chaykin is on fire and his bold energy and willingness to try everything at this period in his career makes him the perfect artist to capture Bester's vision.
