DescriptionIconic and unpublished Jack Kirby's Galaxy Green inked by Mike Royer. If you are looking at this you probably know that this was Kirby's somewhat uncomfortable shot at underground comix. Here is the 'back story' on the piece itself. In the mid 70's Mike Royer had the two pages at San Diego Comic Con. My good friend Greg Pharis (iconic comic book retailer for over 40 years) saw the two pages and made an attempt at getting the two at a discount (Royer wanted $200 apiece...a princely sum at the time)asking Royer to discount them to $350 for the pair. Royer declined stating that Kirby had given them to him as 'payment' for his inking because the project never got off of the ground. Greg chose to buy the Splash / Cover for $200 leaving the other page (the other page is elsewhere on CAF). This has been in Greg Pharis' collection for over 40 years since purchasing it from Royer and Greg recently made the decision to give it a new home (mine). I jumped on the opportunity having admired this Kirby GGA greatness for many years. Thanks Greg, and GG is in a very good home. I feel pretty lucky today. Social/Sharing |

Fantastic piece, the perfect Kirby Royer! Any idea in which year it was made?

My best estimate would be between 1972 no later than early 1973 based upon the timing of when Kirby was between Days of the Mob # 1 and the unpublished (at that time) #2 with the Mike Royer inks. That fits the timeline of other project ideas which Kirby was kicking out to DC as well.

Congrats on acquiring an iconic piece of Kirby history--classic perspective, quirky writing, and beautiful inks and chunky lettering by Royer. Unforgettable!

David, I never knew Jack Kirby could draw such pretty women until I saw this splash. I love it. Everything else is what you expect from a pure Kirby piece at his prime except he raised it a notch to draw these women! Hubba hubba! Amazing. Congrats!
