Description

Back in the summer of 1995, I took it upon myself to turn my boring white double closet doors into a painted mural featuring the X-Men. I chose Ian Churchill's team shot from the end of Cable #20 to use as my source. I used grid lines to help transfer the small comic book image to what would essentially be a life-sized recreation. After I penciled in the outlines of the basic shapes, I started painting undetailed color blobs. The color blobs took life when I then used a black paint marker to draw the lines. After a few months, the end result was a six foot tall recreation of one of my favorite images in an X-Men comic (even if it lacked Wolverine). A couple fun notes: Archangel's wings are indeed metallic silver, the only portion of the painting that was spray painted. Also, each of Beast's body parts are a slightly different color to help with prevent him from being one huge blue blob before detailing.
