DescriptionI've been on a buying freeze with a wedding looming...but thought this issue was fun and went looking to price a cheap page to sneak past the fiancé. Lo and behold I found the cover reasonably priced (probably b/c its looks like its on one-ply toilet paper thin tracing paper).On the comic... Immature 14 year old me (always sitting on my shoulder) really dug this comics debut issue! The story was wonderfully absurd. Writing by Doug Wagner was done well ...with a solid use of sequential pacing...good transitions and dialogue (versus my pet peeve- writers talking over panels...writing above them instead of in them ...if that makes sense). The cartooning by Daniel Hillyard was really strong too....tight and expressive (reminiscent of Ryan Ottley). And the cell shading by Laura Martin was (as usual) top notch. I even love the logo by Eben Mathews! And on to the actual cover artist! Andrew Robinson is such a fluid cartoonist...he makes drawing look effortless. I was set up close by him at a show a few years back and he was just killing commissions...the drawings you see flipping through a sketchbook and you say to yourself "I have to follow this f*cking guy?!". I've never collected his art...but definitely appreciate his skills. He was nominated for an Eisner for the Fifth Beatle a few years back and has been on a roll since. Side Note- Posting this before its even arrived...so naturally...I 100% expect to have this lost in shipping. Social/Sharing |
