I had mentioned briefly I wanted to revisit this topic on a previous post, how I felt this story was a mixture of 007 and Gladiator... and Gladiator more specifically being the Planet Hulk storyline. When I picked up my first page from Tom Grummett's run, it was the end page to this issue and I had mentioned my interpretation of the connection to the Planet Hulk storyline. I didn't even recall this page and these panels being so similar and only picked up on it because I had recently got to this part of the story on my regular re-read of Planet Hulk.

The roaring crowds and angle of Hulk jumped out this time as I was looking at this page in person (that angle/perspective is admittedly very common). I could also drone on about how Tyrannus's mystical stone avatar brings to mind a strong parallel to the antagonist Red King, Hulk's previous heavily armored main bad guy in the Planet Hulk storyline but we get the point: I'm a total fanboy when it comes to that story. And it could all just be in my head. But this has to be an homage of sorts or Greg Pak must've consciously or subconsciously wanted to throwback to my favorite story, which he had previously written. Either way, I love the art and am really fortunate my feet-dragging did not cause me to lose out on great pieces this time. Enjoy!

Particularly strong with the classical 6 panel layout to harken back to silver age Marvel Hulk storytelling. Hulk in the arena battle setting is now iconic!
