Ever since I lost out on John S. Lucas' "Betty and Veronica Slumber Party", I've wanted something like it. After getting the Medusa and Godiva Slumber party from Mitch Ballard, I thought his sharp art and wit would go well with slumber party featuring Bettie Page and Veronica Lodge. I'm surprised the Bettie and Veronica juxtaposition hasn't already been done.

I admire this piece from top to bottom. It's hard to do a recognizable image of a real person and Mitch did a spot on Bettie that was not an imitation of any model I gave him or any image I know of. The position is both characteristic and, I believe, original. He did make the two ladies facially very distinct. Mitch is not only good at drawing pictures, he's clever. He's set the stage with Archie memorabilia and magazines the real Bettie Page appeared in. Notice, the graduation picture in the jukebox. This establishes that Veronica is at least 18 here. The superhero partly visible at far left is almost certainly not Superman. It must be Pureheart the Powerful, the hero Archie becomes in some versions of their continuity.
