DescriptionTalk about some full-on Kirby action. I kind of wish he had done panel one as a DPS, but then I would be unlikely ever to own it, so... mixed feelings. Check it out in the additional image. It's glorious. Way, way better than seeing it in the printed comic.Periodically I feel the need to point out that Royer's inks are a force of nature in themselves. Some people think he was just a tracer, but Berry and Thibodeaux followed Jack closely as well, and it's easy to tell the difference between all three. It's also easy to find original pencil copies and compare them line for line. Ink is different from pencil, and there are a thousand tiny interpretive choices to make. Royer always chooses in the direction of grace and sensuality. There is a special poetry in his Kirby pages, achieved without sacrificing fidelity, that is mostly absent from the inkers that came after him. He was true to Kirby, and yet he enhanced Kirby: a paradox, a miracle, just when Kirby needed it the most. Let the name of Royer endure in glory! Social/Sharing |

This is a really great "action" page from what I call the French issue of Demon. All pages of issue 4 were sold in Paris a long time ago and I know 5 people who own a page from it. I have always wondered how many pages from that issue were still in France. It seems that at least one page has found it's way back to the US. Congrats by the way!!!

I got this page from Bechara, I don't recall whether he had any others from the issue. What would you give to see an animated map of the movements of Kirby pages around the globe?

One of the very best multi-panel pages from the run. You can pick 'em!

I was reading again your description and watching at the same time some Kamandi pages inked by Berry and Royer. And you're right! Royer's inking is poetry.
