DescriptionFrom what I understand, ten pages of COTU 7 is the only original art known to exist from the original Kirby run (four issues of Showcase and eight issues of their own title). The importance of this series is hard to overstate: the first new costumed fantasy characters & team of the Silver Age & of course the template for the FF. The series ran for well over a decade and was a model for much of DC's output, such as Sea Devils, Secret Six, Metal Men and Doom Patrol. This page features two frequent Kirby motifs: miniaturization and the proactive female character (this page is the set up for a spectacular team save by June, using the mad scientist's tech to WALK THROUGH A WALL and free the four male Challengers).Social/Sharing |

Kirby and Wood is enough to cause a commotion, having it in such a classic manner can only add to its appreciation and admiration.

It is so rare to see Kirby pages from that period, and this is a lovely example - Kirby and Wood worked so well together. And the Cold-Flame gun looks great!

I hope they have clean newspaper in there.
And some good human seed. If you feed them well, they might sing for you. Challengers of the Unknown was such a fun Kirby series. All the sci-fi and Kirby Monsters you could want. And it had a hint of his Golden age Simon/Kirby style, too. Love it! Big congrats!

thats because the Original Concept/Idea and some pages from Showcase 6 were drawn and created by Joe and Jack during mainline. Joe let jack take it to DC as Jack was in need for a job. Joe never got any credit for any of it until recently where some people are learning of it.

The Kirby/Wood team was great, and this page is a great example of DC's Silver Age adventure/science fiction comics.

Despite what their wives may have said, Kirby and Wood are very cool.
