DescriptionThis is a really special page for me. I bought this book off the stand, and Spider-Man in the #90s and 100s was a time of turmoil and great changes for the character. The 90s had the death of Capt. Stacey, then onto the great, code-less drug issues and the lead in to issue 100, which didn't let down those of us who followed the book... we'd see the death of The Green Goblin and Gwen Stacey soon enough...Here, Spider-Man grows four extra arms in his vain attempt to rid himself of his gift, and curse. At this same time the comics code loosened their ban on horror so Marvel introduced several horror characters including Morbius the Living Vampire... issue 102 was also one of a handful of .25 cent 52 pages issues that were wonderful but so short-lived, only one issue for each titles was produced. This particular issue was packed with Spider-Man/ Lizard/ Morbius action, and this chapter splash image of the six armed Spider-Man allying himself with the half dangerous Lizard and half sanity regaining Dr. Curt Connors was one that was seared into my brain forever. I'm glad Spider-Man had four extra arms here because I had to give up a few of mine to get this page from a certain Spider-Man fanatic. But sometimes you bite the bullet and do it. Artistically I think it's the best page in the book and better than the actual splash (notwithstanding the splash has Morbius). In any case this is the page I wanted. I think Kane is such a great comic artist and his work on Spider-Man in particular really had elegance, imagination and impact. And how trippy is a six armed Spider-Man carrying a Lizard over Manhattan?!! This is one of the best Spider-Man pages ever! It's a very welcome addition to my collection. Social/Sharing |

I have such fond memories of these single month 52 pagers in between the jump from 15 to 20 cents on the cover price. I honestly believe it was to soften the blow of the price increase. LOL! With Spidey being my favorite character, issue 102 was an obvious favorite. Before discovering Neal Adams, Kane was my very first favorite comic book artist. This is a truly classic splash page. So jealous right now. Congratulations Rob!

I agree with you, Eric!! And no surprise we both still love Adams... in fact Kane and Adam have a lot in common... unique point of view shots and a gritty and elegant realism... thanks for your comments!!

The six arm Spidey is one of my all time favorite stories and visually it's spectacular. The action on this page is great. Gil Kane deserves more praise. Congrats on an outstanding piece of Spidey history.

My mom wouldn't let me buy this book off the stands because... V V V Vampires (she first became a parent during the comic book scare era so...). She never worried about lizard men, though. Anyway, I am always thankful that the local barber had a copy in his reading pile, otherwise it would have been years before I found out how this thing ended. Also, wow!

One of Kane’s most iconic Spidey interior pages—maybe one of Kane’s most iconic interior pages, period. Love the weirdness of this story and image, its historical significance in the Spidey mythos, and the craftsmanship represented in the page. Perfect example of Kane’s dynamic approach to composition and anatomy. Huge congrats!
