Artwork Details

DescriptionI've been meaning to post this for the last several months, but work and travel have kept us very busy. This is the original published art from "The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard" and it is by Greg Staples. You'll notice the difference between this original and the published version. The published version, he digitally added the red and gave the cover a glossier, more colorful finish. I prefer the grittier, darker, original over the digitally enhanced additions. Just my opinion.Social/Sharing |

what an impressive piece... you'd think this was painted 100 years ago.

Welcome back, Maria, with this beautiful painting! And I agree with Matt: it really looks like an illustration from some classic vintage adventure novel...

Great layout and action-it's busy, but not cluttered.

I love the grittier version! There is a more organic feel to it.. and it's evocative as a whole. Extraordinary illustration, Maria. :)

I'm with you and the others preferring the original version over the digitally enhanced published cover !!! in your version the warriors seem to fade after being blown up in this marvel of watercolors while the digital looks like a lesser fantasy oil cover ! Congrats !!!

Phenomenal! Looks like an illustration from another era--Love the darker, grittier illustration! You'd never guess it was done recently.
