Thanks Lenny! You are right about the eyes for sure. Tim did this piece in 2 time segments. In the first, he roughed out the piece with light pencils and did the majority of the eyes with the exception of the grays that were added at the end. I didn't get to see him do the eyes so when I cam back they were done and it was at this point I knew I was going to love the piece. Thanks George! I have been hunting Sale for well before I started this theme but once I decided to do the Larkin series, I knew what I wanted Tim to do for me if/when I had the chance. A little interesting fact about the commission. When I pitched the idea to Tim, I said that I ask the artists to do an homage to the Larkin illo with it’s trademark cues like clenched fist and teeth, intense eyes, etc. Tim said OK but as he started sketching out the piece he asked if he could do the mouth open. I was actually hoping he would as that is part of his signature look on the Hulk. So while it departs a little more from the source material, it still retains the homage and captures Tim’s famous look that he established on the Hulk Gray story line.

Thanks for the compliment … and thanks for the idea for a double fast-pass. I knew Tim would not be able to get this done in one FP session so I offered up front to break it into 2 if he needed the time. Your Planet Hulk vs Silver Savage piece was the first double FP I saw and it was definitely in my mind when I was thinking about pitching the concept to Tim.

OMG! I love this series of Hulk faces you've collected (Loved your Weekly Flip of them on CAF Live).  I think this one by Tim Sale may be my favorite. But I love them all. Your collection continues to blow me away!
