DescriptionEDIT UPDATE: I did a weekly flip of this portfolio for Bill Cox’s Comic Art Live YouTube channel – please click here if you’d like to see more! The latest installment in this series is by the talented Jim Rugg. Jim drew the recently released Hulk Grand Design comics. Once I saw this series announced and that Jim was the artist, I reached out to see about getting his version of this homage added to the collection. A great commission process was concluded at Heroes Con 2022 (I always try to bring a LArkin homage home from this show) and I am thrilled to be able to add this to the gallery. I have slowed a bit on this series but have not stopped. I have a few targeted artists in mind and am always looking for the new idea to add as well. Stay tuned for more updates! As always, thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Man he crushed that!
Thanks Kelsey - great catching up at Heroes! This piece, more than any previously, retains the most likeness to the original. Kim is a chameleon as an artist and great at paying homage to other works.

Thanks brother - I appreciate that. All those great Rugg pieces you and Jimmy have shown me over the years certainly put him on my radar.

The rendering is fabulous. Looks great from a distance (as its very impressionistic) but equally exciting up close as the line work is really fun to gawk at. Congrats!

Great close up and a great job by the artist. The key are the eyes I think. Just one look and you can see the full blown rage, with absolutely no trace of humanity left in them. If Hulk's power comes from his anger, than this is him at his most powerful.

So good Dave! He is able to capture the Hulk rage in the facial expression extremely well, not to mention that the line work is outstanding. It was such a pleasure to meet you and Steven, (two of the biggest Hulk collectors out there!), and it just so happened to be in line to pick up this beauty! I feel lucky to have got a look at it up close. Rugg's work on Hulk Grand Design is pure eye candy and this piece is too! Congrats!

The power of Hulk is stronger than Thing
Make a Ben Grimm weep, make a puny man sing
Change your Hulk from a Larken to Rugg
More than a drawing, that's the power of Hulk
Tougher than emeralds, Hulk eats beans
Stronger with anger than his war world dream
Make a mad one good, gamma Hulk done right
Artwork of Rugg will bring it home tonight
You don't trade Marie, Sal B fame
Max out a credit card for McFarlane
Hulk's strong and he's sudden and he's cruel sometimes
But it might just save your life
That's the anger of Hulk
That's the power of Rugg

I love it when I can read your comments Marcus ... and they are in the tune of the song you have used. This is an art form - love it! Below are a couple favorite excerpts:
"Change your Hulk from a Larken to Rugg"
"Max out a credit card for McFarlane"

I keep staring at this to try and figure out how he did it. There are so many layers of foreground and background. It's absolutely stellar.
