DescriptionFirst meeting of Batwoman and Alice. Original comic art measures approximately 11"x17". Measures approximately 25" x 20" framed. Pencils, ink, and ink wash on bristol board. Signed and dated by J.H. Williams III and story writer, Greg Rucka, at a signing event at Alternate Reality Comics in Las Vegas in 2009.Please note that this end page is marked by the artist as Batwoman 1, page 24, but it ended up being published in Detective #854 instead. The page numbering remained the same. Batwoman finally gets to meet the new leader of the Religion of Crime face to face. A woman dressed like a psychedelic Alice in Wonderland with skin so powder white she almost appears to be glowing stands before her in a dimly lit chapel. But Kate isn't here to visit. She draws her newly gifted pistol, aims it at Alice, and fires. Social/Sharing |

JH Williams is a master craftsman! I always find it interesting to see how they sometimes alter the original art in the final page (i.e. taking out the shell casing and the sound effect).

I'm honored to own a handful of his originals. Even the simplest pages are just plain gorgeous. I have to wonder why DC made the edits on this piece. It seems so minor and Batwoman wouldn't use a gun with bullets on an enemy.

He totally took these pages to soaring artistic heights, so much so that I still find myself comparing every other rendition of Batwoman to his. I fell madly head over heels in love with the character and comics in general all over again as a result.

Alice is a hard character to understand. Maybe it will get better in the 4th volume lol

I had to wait month to month to read the individual issues, which was quite torturous given some of the serious cliffhangers. The WW story is one of my favorites too. They're a great team up. Alice is a most interesting character. I was fortunate enough to have a chance to pick J3's brain about her last year at a con in NJ. He and Haden had an entire plot scripted out with her which, sad to say, will never come to fruition what with the falling out between the creative team and DC. It's a shame.
