DescriptionAs a kid, I grew up on Air Force Bases before joining the Air Force myself and so I've always had a love for Airplanes. One of my favorites was the B-17 flying fortress. Me and my older brother used to build the models when we were kids growing up and had them hanging on the ceiling in our room. That was years ago since I'm now a grand father. Any ways, here I am at work one day and a past retired emloyee (Ed) comes in to visit and talk and one of his loves is building model airplanes. Well, we get into a long talk about airplanes and I even hit on the new movie called Red Tails saying that I love all 3 of the planes from that movie being the B-17, ME-109 and the Awesome P-51 Mustang. Well, one thing leads to another and Ed offers to build the planes for me since he is retired and loves passing his time doing this. Looking at some of his models, this was a no brainer and as of this posting, 2 out of three of them are done. Since B-17's flew bombing missions and were always under attack from above (ME-109's) and below from anti aircraft guns, I had him take some liberties with damage to the B-17 and I have to say that I love what he did with them! You also have to remember that these were plastic model kits that he has fully built and completely painted. The bottom has taken plenty of flack and he even put 50 caliber holes throughout the plane where the ME-109 has been trying to take them out. The P-51 is being built and will be added as soon as it's done. If anyone would like any thing built for them, Ed is beyond reasonable as he just loves building them. I can send more pictures if anyone wants more and he builds tanks and ships also and can also build the diaramas for sitting on a shelf. I prefer looking up and seeing them in an arial battle :)Social/Sharing |

I grew up on Air Force bases all over the world, and also loved building models in my youth. All of my planes are long gone, though! :)

When I was a kid (I'm 56 now) my late brother Jim moved to New Jersey to live with my Aunt Verona. My Uncle traveled a lot and my Mom was kind enough to spare one of two kids for a few years. Anyway, my Uncle Joe got Jim started building model airplanes. I'll never forget visiting and he must have had thirty planes hanging from the ceiling. It was just so cool to sit and look at them. You have the right idea my friend. Those were the days. Great collection you have. keep up the good work.
