DescriptionTwo wonderful original panels from the 1961 Mickey Mouse story „Showery Surprise“, by the great Paul Murry. These panels only survived because they were cut from the original story, probably to make space for an advertisement. As the published story has 2 1/2 pages, it’s safe to say that the story must have had (at least) 3 pages before it was cut, so there must have been at least 2 more panels.So where do these fit into the story? When looking at the back of the art, it’s clear that these 2 panels stood next to each other and that they formed the top row of a halfpage. Furthermore Mickey mentions in the text that he’s soon expecting his two nephews…this means that these two panels probably formed the top row of the lower half(page) of the first page and that the lower row (2 panels?) of the upper half(page) of the first page is probably the missing cut art… The story „Showery Surprise“ was first published in Mickey Mouse #78 (June 1961) and later at least 25 times in 16 countries… Thanks to Monty Bali for selling me these two panels and for the "detective work" about their provenance. A logical cut as it only serves to make Mickey look mean. But it's still a rare look at Murray artwork.
