Brilliant Sienkiewicz piece where he experimented with the medium even further to expand possibilities of what comics stories could tell. Painting and collage in an intoxicating mixture to show an experience of Jimi Hendrix's life with those pesky Canadian customs and his smack.

It is hard to imagine what comics would look like now if it wasn't for Bill and the flood gates he allowed to open in terms of fine art artists coming into comics and reshaping the landscape. This is an amazing book and just about every page is a winner. I really like this one and how the simple grid is used to tell a story and also the transition from light to dark... brilliant!

Agreed, It is so hard to translate music to visuals but Bill crushed it. He created rhythm with color value and the grid to keep the panel to panel pace. and then there were the pages that got psychedelic and lost all sense of panel shape and from. Definitely a master class of adapting music to comics.

Even though he was stretching what an artist could do on a comics page, it's amazing to me how clear the story is. Even without the word balloons, the story is perfectly understandable.
