DescriptionHello my CAF Bro's & Sista's,Here is another magnum opus from the extraordinary mind & genius of artist Derek Gores!!! In his collage portraits, Derek Gores recycles magazines, labels, data, and assorted found analog and digital materials to create the works on canvas. The series showcases Gores' contrasting interests in the living beauty of the figure, the angular and abstract design aesthetics of fashion, and a fearless sense of play. Derek is a creative prodigy whose clientele includes the likes of Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, ESPN, Budweiser & Lucasfilms just to name a few. Galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney, Cologne, Miami, Santa Fe and more exhibit his fine art canvases. So for me to be privileged enough to be on his very short list of commissions was an amazing achievement by itself. Derek does not take commissions on request unless he feels he can truly capture the essence/conceptual vision of your idea on canvas first. So I am honored that he loved my idea! In this fine art, we have the Black Panther (T'Challa), a member of the Avengers standing on a set of stone steps looking like he is ready to inflict some serious hurt on his potential adversary. Overhead is a full moon emitting light to illuminate his pathway to his nemesis' lair! What is truly exceptional about this commission is the symbolism behind its conception. Black Panther was created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby during the controversy of the Civil Rights Movement in 1966, during a turbulent time in our US history. Upon getting a closer look at this gorgeous rendition, we see some of the key leaders & events of that time period brought together in unison & harmony to fight for one sole purpose - EQUALITY. To start, of course we have T'Challa's namesake, the Black Panther Party with the likes of Stokely Carmichael and Huey Newton. Several pioneers of the era such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers & a few more revolutionaries are captured here as well. Derek even incorporated some of the most heinous aspects and atrocities of the faction with images of the KKK & lynching’s. Contained in the body of the canvas are two of the most powerful songs of the movement; ‘Revolution’ by the Beatles & ‘A Change Gonna Come’ by Sam Cooke lyrics descend to show how through their music, America had to take notice at the suffrage that was prevalent. All displayed here together to exhibit this truly exclusive and groundbreaking portrait that symbolizes universal love & integration, which only this type of venue can accurately capture. So yes, "WE CAN ALL GET ALONG". The Black Panther made his debut in Fantastic Four #52 and has been a mainstay ever since, and is widely recognized as the first hero of color. I am proud to add this masterpiece to my gallery and have it personify a breakthrough in comic book lore! This portrait measures a massive 30" l x 30" w mixed media art in Derek's signature collage style. It took 6 months to complete, but it was well worth the wait! Derek my friend, you have definitely outdone yourself this time! Thanks for blessing me with such a timeless treasure!!! Social/Sharing |
