Description

Picked this beauty up at Illuxcon 2023 directly from David Wenzel. I simply could not walk away from it when I saw it. I love how David balances the cold colors of the night against the heat of Smaug's breath. I also love how it breaks the frame and gives Smaug an almost 3D feel, like he's flying out of the picture, ready to burn Laketown into ash. I should also note, that David has recently been commissioned to expand his seminal Hobbit graphic novel. It's possible that this piece could end up in that expansion. Fingers crossed that it does! Smaug needs more people to see him in his firey glory!
