DescriptionFrom "The New Adventures of Batman / The Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour" 1977-78 comes this hand painted original publicity cel. This is a really rare and very cool piece... one of my favorites, as this was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons. I was 13/14 when this came out and like others from my generation, was starved for super hero action on Saturdays. I obtained this piece waaay back in the mid eighties from an animator who worked for Filmation. This brings back a ton of fun memories for me. I hope it does for you as well.Social/Sharing |

Nice piece but just to clarify for you this is not a production used cel. These were promotional cels that were still hand painted but never used in the production of the cartoons. :)

You have a great point Batfan. It's a question I raised when I got the piece. There were actually two animators who worked on the series there. They had two cases. One with production work, one with other work inc publicity pieces. The Batman and Robin w/Batmobile found elsewhere in my gallery came from the publicity case. This piece with the cast came from the porduction case. The case was filled with partial drawings and cels as you would imagine. But as you can see, this piece is full of full figures... Both animators adamantly stated that this IS a production cel from the title sequence. They pointed to the production markings (which arent visible in my photo), and their own experience being invlved with it. They rightfully point out that most production pieces are a flow of action full of partial figures. But at some point you have to have a dynamic full figured starting or stopping point, and they say this is it... making it very rare. Either way, it's a fantastic piece from the production of a fun series that brings back ton of great memories for many of us.
