Overstreet Price Guide #13 Original Cover Art by Newton and Rubinstein
This is a grail for me. I feel so lucky to have found it and obtained it. Waaay back in 1982 I was the co-owner of a comic book store. When this Overstreet Price Guide came out I was blown away. Overstreet always does a great job on their covers, but for me this is the best one they've ever produced. Like all great covers, be it comic book, novel, biography, or even coloring book... it makes you want to read what's inside. I remember how this cover caught the eye's of all the kids (and adults) who came in, and compelled them to pick the book up and look inside. I think this book, above all others, really got the kids of the early direct market to get into back issues and values. Don Newton is one of my favorite comic artists ever, and with this piece I'm honored to now own two of his greatest works. I've gotten to know the inker of this art, the great Joe Rubinstein, and he tells me some interesting info on how he inked Don's pencils. He says he inked Wonder Woman and Batman ala Dick Giordano, while inking Superman ala Neal Adams. After hearing that... now I see it! Don had said that Joe was his favorite inker and Joe remembers Don personally delivering the art to him for inking. The art is large, with the image area measuring 12 x 17. In the additional images section you'll also see the even larger (14.5 x 20.25) hand colored blueline on bristol board. Newton/Rubinstein cover... Superman... Batman... Wonder Woman... Infinity Cover... it doesn't get any better than this.
