Back in June at the NJ Collectorfest, Dave did a really nice sketch of The Martian, one of Kirby's pre-hero monsters, from 'The Martian That Stole My Body' in Journey Into Mystery # 57 (March, 1960).

That show was back today and yesterday I got a message from Dave saying he had 'something special' for me..and then he sent over the pic...WOW! Turns out, he got inspired by the initial sketch and needed to do a demo for his FIT illustration class...here are his own words from Facebook:

This started off as a sketch commission�-on the right. A few months later, I had to do a demonstration of watercolor at the fashion Institute of technology and grabbed the sketch. I then transferred it on some Bristol board and did all the crazy textural effects-using bleach salt, and believe it or not nail polish remover. I brought it home as it was just barely started. Even then you could see the bones of the final image. After that, I slowed my brain down and did all the detailing�-what you see on the left is the result. My friend Justin Leigh Leiter commissioned the original and purchased the watercolor today. Had fun. The Martian is a Jack Kirby monster. Love the design. Kirby was amazing.

I picked it up today and it's gorgeous.

11x14 and it was framed!

Now to find some wall space...
