DescriptionThis amazing drawing was a surprise present JB gave me for my 50th birthday in October of this year. Some friends and I visited John in September and he had this propped up on the couch in his studio when we arrived. I had no idea that it was for me and was literally speechless when John presented it to me.JB posted this piece to his web-site on my 50th birthday and in the thread associated with it, he wrote: "The "Secret Origin" of the birthday drawing lies in the fact that I own a page from that original Batman appearance in SWAMP THING, and Jim drools over it every time he visits the Studio. Although I will never willingly part with the page, Jim is the designated recipient in my Will. But with this significant birthday just a few months away, a while back I decided to create this piece to "tide him over". The original is 18" x 24" and is drawn in pencil and ink with gray-tone highlights. It looks much nicer in person than this scan and is a piece I will truly treasure as long as I live. Even after nearly 25 years of working together, I still have to pinch myself each time I visit JB as it seems unreal that I actually know and am friends with my favorite comic book artist. To receive something like this from him just takes things to an even higher level... I keep expecting to be unplugged from the Matrix at any moment and wake up from this terrific dream! I'm speechless ! First of all, congrats on your birthday ! Now, it's the first time I'd ever seen a JB's Swamp Thing and it's amazing !! JB can make anything look great, but it looks like he'd tried to make this even more amazing for you. Spectacular piece !

Truly spectacular! A grand gesture to be sure and something I know you will always cherish. Ridiculous amount of detail here, even for Byrne. Such a masterful piece! I love how well he makes the Batman figure stand out from all that gorgeous background behind him. And if all that wasn't enough, he's leaving you the original inspiration for this in his will. Here's hoping that won't be collecting on that for a long, long, time to come! Congratulations and Happy Birthday buddy!

The most heartfelt congratulations. Jim has provided many John Byrne fans their first access to John's artwork and he was always a great guy to deal with... I couldn't think of a better art rep! I am happy that John also appreciates Jim the same way we do, this is evident by that beautiful, super cool piece of art!!!

It has been a thrill to work with my favorite artist, but the best thing about selling JB's artwork is that it has brought me together with so many wonderful folks who I would have otherwise never met!

I can see in this piece that a little extra thing called "love" was an ingredient in making it. Nice one Jim!

How come JB is not working for either DC or Marvel , continues to stump me. He still has the goods and easily blows away most of today's so called pros.

Hands-down the best depiction of Swamp Thing outside of Bernie Wrightson. And of course, there's the perfect Batman too. John Byrne Gold!
Congratulations!
