Description

Gottfried Helnwein, Cover preliminary artwork for Stern Magazine, (c. 1980s).

Controversial Austrian born fine artist Gottfried Helnwein drew this rough preliminary sketch for a cover for the German magazine Stern, which would feature Donald Duck reading a Donald Duck comic book.

This is very similar to an illustration he produced in 1983 for the German comic Der Donaldist #83. It's hard to say which came first. That other image was later used as the cover on several magazines and made into a limited edition art print as well.

This piece is graphite and marker on vellum and is signed by the artist.
