DescriptionPublished 2006 by IDWFallen Angel was created by Peter David after the cancellation of his Supergirl series. Some Supergirl fans like me followed the Fallen Angel series since the mythology created by Peter that ran through the Supergirl series was very similar. Peter was very careful to keep the series separate from the DCU and when the Fallen Angel series was cancelled by DC, he continued it on at IDW. While it was at DC, there were hints that the lead character Lee, might be Linda Danvers. When it moved to IDW, Peter revealed that Lee was not Linda but in issue #14, he introduced Lin who was Lee's predecessor with strong hints that Lin could be Linda Danvers. Since Linda is a DC owned character, Peter could not say Lin was actually Linda. In this issue, Peter tells the story of when Lee was first cast down to Earth with the cover depicting Lee in a 'fallen angel' pose with the ripples in the sand giving the illusion of wings Social/Sharing |

She stepped off ink brush out of the DC streets
Just a superb girl with her whole life
Packed Lin a suitcase by her feet
But somehow the lights didn't
Shine as bright as David
On her Linda's DC scene
And the work screams Peter
And JK's sweet cover
That we never thought she's Lee
But you know you got to stick to your runs
When it's fallen down
Cause sometimes you can't choose
It's lawyers they win
Tails you're DCU
Win big - Peter's fallen angel
Lose big - Lee is out her mind
Wants it all - Lin's a fallen angel
Drew it all, rolling the dice with your life

A very delicate and lovely piece. But how did David manage to take a property he created at DC to IDW?

Apparently Peter and artist David Lopez created it and took it to DC, retaining ownership rights.

Woodward is one of my favorite artists. Nice catch! The way the sheets turn into angel wings is brilliant.

Wow! What a stunning cover for "Fallen Angel." I love the way the ripples of sand are so dramatially lit, highlighting their patterns and revealing the way Lee's arms have left the impression of wings in the sand. Hence the name, "Fallen Angel." It's such gorgeous art by J.K.Woodward. And I am intrigued by the backstory you tell. The notion that the fallen angel is, in fact, Supergirl, and that Lin could be Linda Danvers makes a lot of sense. What a wonderful pick-up, congrats!
