Description

John Buscema is one of my all time favorite artists. A master draftsman who told a story with great drama whether he was doing breakdowns or full pencils but I always coveted the work he penciled and inked the most. I just love the personality in his brush work. His artistic choices are unfiltered. His line is as unique to him as Ditko or Kubert's was to them.

This page won't bring the collecting world to it's knees because of historical significance but it's pure Buscema. The first of many I hope.

Oh my word!!! This has to be one of the coolest Avengers pages I've seen. That 3rd panel screams pure Buscema at his best!

Agreed. That's the panel that made me buy this one because it was so quintessentially buscema

Sweet page! You have the Avengers Assembled! And the bad guys assembled as well. All in classic Big John style. Nice.

Your're right! To have a page pencil and inked by the master is something to be mighty proud of! Congrats!

Stunning! Pure Buscema from beginning to end. Just look at that lush trademark linework. Gorgeous!

Thanks Bud! John's drawing is some of the most emotionally satisfying to look at on every level.

That's what breaks my heart about trying to get a piece by him. I can't afford a vintage cover, but I don't collect panel pages. So I'm sort of screwed. Not to say that his Silver Age interior pages are that much cheaper. I can barely afford those either, even if I DID collect them! LOL

LOL! Being a cover only guy is rough on a Buscema fan and I suspect it'll only get harder as time goes on. I bet it's worth it though! Good luck buddy!

Yes, that's one of the realities I face as a collector who is not among the super rich. As time goes by, I get priced out of more and more artist markets. I just resign myself to the fact that I will never own a prime example of certain artists in my lifetime. Which is fine. What's that old saying about plenty of other fish in the sea? Not so much sour grapes, but just cheaper fish! LOL

well, I think you've put together one of the finest collections on CAF. I've discovered artists I've never heard of before as well as work I've missed by some of my all time favorites exploring your collection. You've given great advice when it comes to building a collection within your means. I have no doubt a Buscema will appear one day in the Big picture collection, but being a covers only collector you're making it very hard! LOL

Thank you my friend. It's definitely a "blue collar" collection. I think people are getting tired of hearing how I started collecting art while I was sweeping floors for $3.10 an hour. Even though art prices 30 years ago were nothing compared to today, it still took quite a few paychecks to build the foundation for my collection.

God knows what kind of ridiculous bidding wars we'd get into with unlimited budgets Eric! I think the world is better off with us on a budget ;) we can always live vicariously through the acquisitions of other caf members.

Don't know about the world being better off, but I'm certainly a better collector for it. Having no money really forced me to sharpen my buying instincts and be more selective and discerning. I think you develop a different eye when you are forced to choose the very best among ten pieces, as opposed to having the ability to just buy all ten.

Buscema really is great! He did so much work I continue to rediscover large volumes of stuff I never knew existed.

Whoa! I didn't even know this comic existed. Full JB on an Avengers story? Hot damn, Ebay, here I come. Hmm, where are the rest of these (rubs hands together)?

Thanks Aaron!Even though it's not a big battle page with Cap and the gang in action or from a iconic story this one jumped out at me instantly and I had to have it. Hope you find a page soon!
